GAF Roofing in Hollywood, CA | Marquis Roof Repair
We provide independent GAF roofing service across Hollywood, from flat tar-and-gravel apartment roofs on Hollywood Boulevard to Spanish Colonial barrel tile homes in the Hills. The one thing that makes our GAF work here different is that we diagnose the assembly as built: the sign mounts, the rooftop HVAC curbs, the film lighting brackets. Most GAF failures we see in Hollywood trace back to a penetration, not a worn field. Call (866) 705-2978 for a free estimate.
We’re an independent contractor. We are not manufacturer-affiliated, not GAF-authorized, and we don’t claim warranty endorsement from GAF or anyone else. What we offer is hands-on familiarity with GAF product lines, genuine GAF accessories where the system depends on them, and a repair-first approach. If the membrane or shingle field is sound, we re-flash and patch. If it’s at end of life, we tell you straight and quote replacement. That’s the whole job. For a deeper look at our broader work with this brand, see our GAF sales & service page.
Why Hollywood Residents Choose Us for GAF Service
We work on GAF systems every week across Hollywood’s mix of flat apartment roofs and steep tile-over-underlayment assemblies. That matters because the failure points here are not the ones a GAF product catalog covers. On a Timberline shingle roof, the architectural shingle field rarely fails first. What fails is the flashing at a valley or a pipe boot, where UV has baked the sealant strip and the first concentrated winter rain drives water past it. On a GAF Liberty SBS capsheet over an old tar-and-gravel deck, the blisters and wrinkles show up where the membrane was mopped over uneven substrate or where water ponds at a curb. We know where to look before we open the roof.
Ron Thibodeau grew up in Magnolia Park in Burbank, studied building construction technology at Los Angeles Valley College, and spent more than two decades roofing across the San Fernando Valley before putting Marquis Roof Repair down in Burbank. He is methodical about finding the actual source of a leak, not just the symptom. We bring that same diagnostic discipline to every Hollywood job, whether it’s a 1928 courtyard building off Franklin Avenue or a mid-century dingbat near the Walk of Fame. Common GAF Roofing Problems We Solve in Hollywood
- Timberline HDZ sealant strip failures at flashings. The few shingle-roofed bungalows and hillside homes in Hollywood with GAF Timberline HDZ fields rarely lose shingles from the mat itself. What happens is the sealant strips get baked by months of rainless summer heat, then the first concentrated winter storm drives water past penetration flashings and valleys. We replace the flashing detail, not the field, whenever the shingle field is still sound.
- GAF Liberty SBS blistering and wrinkling over uneven tar-and-gravel. Old Hollywood Boulevard and Franklin Avenue flat roofs still have their original tar-and-gravel base. When a GAF Liberty SBS capsheet gets mopped over that, it can blister and wrinkle where the substrate was never smooth, or where ponding at sign and HVAC curbs never fully drains. We cut out and re-terminate the failed sections without touching the intact field.
- EverGuard TPO seam and curb terminations opening at sign mounts. Hollywood flat roofs carry billboard, sign, and event-lighting mounts that were added after the membrane went down. The EverGuard TPO seam or curb termination opens at those mounts, and the leak traces to the flashing detail, not the field sheet. We re-flash the penetration properly.
- Dried and cracked GAF underlayment under Spanish Colonial barrel tile. On the 1920s and 1930s barrel tile buildings throughout Hollywood, the GAF felt or synthetic underlayment beneath the tile dries and cracks under years of UV and heat. It only sheds water when a tile shifts or a storm pushes rain sideways. You’ll see a leak, but the tile looks fine. We lift the tile, replace the underlayment, and reset the tile to match.
- Ponding water at rooftop equipment curbs. Hollywood’s dry summers mean nobody notices a low spot at an HVAC curb until December or January. Then the ponded water sits at a GAF membrane termination and migrates under the flashing. We build the curb up, re-terminate the membrane, and restore positive drainage where the roof structure allows.
GAF Service in Hollywood: What Local Conditions Mean for Your Equipment
The flat roofs over Hollywood Boulevard and Franklin Avenue storefronts and apartments carry billboard, sign, and rooftop equipment penetrations that most suburban roofers never see in their entire careers. The bulk of our flat-roof calls in Hollywood are traced to a GAF membrane termination at a sign mount, not to a worn field sheet. This is the single biggest difference between GAF service here and GAF service anywhere else in Los Angeles County. When a billboard company or an event crew mounts a sign or a lighting rig on a roof that already has a GAF Liberty SBS or EverGuard TPO membrane in place, the penetration is often flashed by someone who did not install the original membrane. The termination bar gets set with the wrong primer, or the seam tape gets skipped, or the curb detail gets sealed with an incompatible caulk that fails within a season. Then the first big winter storm arrives and water finds the gap. We hear the same story every January: the roof never leaked, then it leaked all at once. Our job is to get the termination done correctly so the assembly works as one system again.
GAF Models & Products We Service in Hollywood
We service the GAF product families most common on Hollywood roofs: Timberline HDZ architectural shingles, Timberline UHDZ, GAF Liberty SBS self-adhered low-slope membrane, and GAF EverGuard TPO single-ply membrane. Our parts approach is simple. Where the assembly is GAF and the detail depends on that system, we use genuine GAF accessories: seam tape, termination bars, primers, and matching membrane or shingle stock. Where a quality equivalent makes better sense for the specific repair, we use that, and we never dress a different brand as GAF. For Hollywood’s flat-roof-heavy housing stock, that means we keep Liberty SBS and EverGuard TPO seam supplies in the truck, because flat-roof penetrations are the call we get most.

FAQs – GAF Roofing in Hollywood
Is GAF Liberty the right membrane for my old Hollywood Boulevard flat roof over tar-and-gravel?
For many Hollywood Boulevard flat roofs, yes. GAF Liberty SBS self-adhered membrane is a solid choice over uneven tar-and-gravel because it can bridge minor irregularities without the blistering you see with some torch-applied systems. The key is preparation: if the existing tar-and-gravel base is too deteriorated, or if there’s persistent ponding at the sign and HVAC curbs, we’ll tell you before we lay anything down. Call (866) 705-2978 for an inspection and a straight answer on what your roof actually needs.
My Spanish Colonial barrel tile roof leaks but the tiles look fine, could the GAF underlayment be the problem?
Almost certainly. The barrel tile field on a 1920s or 1930s Hollywood Spanish Colonial can look perfect while the GAF underlayment beneath it has dried and cracked from decades of direct heat and UV that reaches it through the tile gaps. The tile itself is not waterproof; the underlayment is. When we see leaking with intact tile, we lift the affected run, replace the underlayment, and reset the tile to match. It’s a precise repair, not a full reroof.
Can you re-flash a GAF membrane around a rooftop billboard or sign mount without replacing the whole roof?
Yes. This is exactly the kind of repair we do most often in Hollywood. We cut back the failed membrane at the mounting curb, re-prime the area, set a proper termination bar with GAF seam tape, and tie the flashing back into the field. If the surrounding membrane is still sound, there’s no reason to replace it. If it’s not, we’ll show you exactly why and quote accordingly.
Do you use genuine GAF seam tape and accessories, and does that keep my GAF warranty intact?
We use genuine GAF seam tape, termination bars, primers, and matching stock wherever the assembly is GAF and the detail depends on that system. That said, we are an independent contractor, not a GAF-authorized or manufacturer-affiliated installer. Using genuine accessories keeps the repair compatible with the original system, but no repair done by an independent contractor extends or preserves a GAF warranty. We’ll be straight about that from the first phone call.
Why does my Hollywood flat roof only leak during the winter storms?
Because Hollywood’s hot, rainless summers hide problems. A small opening at a sign mount or a low spot at an HVAC curb gets no water for seven or eight months, so nobody notices it. Then the first concentrated winter rain arrives, the water ponds where it’s been waiting to pond, and the leak shows up all at once. That pattern means the problem has been developing for months before you see the first water. Call (866) 705-2978 before the next storm season and we’ll find the weak spots now. Estimates are free.
